School Exclusion

The story

Two young people with similar stories received different support at school. This film follows what that difference meant, and how young people feel about being excluded.

Commissioned by the University of Nottingham, the film is based on two young people with similar case studies. One received the right support and got better results from school.

The main focus is the effect of school exclusion and how young people feel about it. Along the way the film asks how schools can support healthy relationships between students and the wider community, and sets out the principles of a trauma-informed approach: safety, choice, collaboration, empowerment and trust.
